The Parish Nurse ministry does not include invasive procedures or hands-on care of the ill.

The Parish Nurse of First Presbyterian Church is a volunteer position that focuses on health maintenance and disease prevention. Jan A. Widell, RN, MSN, brings experience as a nursing educator and practice as a community health/psychiatric nurse to this position. Because she continues to teach nursing, office hours are limited. However, Jan can be reached by telephone at home (334-887-9814), cell phone (334-663-6668) or e-mail: widelja@charter.net or through the church office.

Since its organization in 1850, the First Presbyterian Church of Auburn has relied on its members to provide care and nurturing to one another. The tradition of sharing our individual talents began with Edwin Reese, who made the bricks for the building, and Reverend Shotwell who rode the stagecoach to preach each Sunday. The Parish Nurse Ministry uses volunteer members of our congregation who give their time and talent to provide health education and spiritual care for our members and families.
